Staying Healthy While Christmas Shopping
Christmas is a season of shopping for food, gifts, and personal rewards. But with all that glorious but incredibly fattening feasts all around, it can be difficult to stay fit while going around the shopping centre or farmer's market. But do not worry because with the following tips, you can still have a good time shopping while maintaining your health.
First, before going out to the grocery or shopping centre, have a light meal. By having a filled tummy, it would be easier for you to avoid stopping by food stalls, cafes, or restaurants to devour some rich but fattening meals. If you did not eat a meal before going out and you feel hungry, stop by a food establishment and order some healthy snacks such as oranges, pretzels, fruit or vegetable slices with low-fat dips, or dried fish.
Next, drink lots of water, fruit juice, or energy drink. That is because the cold weather can actually dehydrate you and make you prone to ailments caused by low temperatures. Thus, do not forget to bring a bottle of quenching liquid while you are out. It is also a good idea to avoid diuretic beverages such as coffee, tea or alcohol, all of which can drain you of fluids.
Finally, when you go shopping for food, choose healthy food. For instance, you can opt for low-fat, high-protein turkey rather than high-calorie pork or chicken for your Christmas dinner. Also, pile up on vegetables such as Brussels sprouts, carrots, lettuce, and peas, all of which contain antioxidants to protect your body and fibre to cleanse your digestive system. Furthermore, fill your pantry with fruits, which contain essential vitamins and minerals.
